Problem: When you try to use Windows Update or update Windows Defender to check for and install updates, you receive one of the following error messages:<\/p>\n
Windows Defender error code 0x80072efd The following solution worked for me on a PC running Vista SP1. This was after all of the other suggestions provided by Microsoft Support at http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/836941<\/a> and http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/971058<\/a> did not work.<\/p>\n Solution (Vista SP 1):<\/p>\n 1. Click the “Start” Button, click “All programs”, and click “Accessories”.<\/p>\n 2. Right-click \u201cCommand Prompt\u201d Run as administrator”. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. 3. Type “netsh winhttp reset proxy” (without quotes) at the command prompt, and press Enter. 4. Try the update again.<\/p>\n
