This  occurs when the source HAL and the target HAL do not match.<\/li>\n<li>The computer spontaneously restarts when you receive the \t\t\t\tfollowing message on a black screen early \t\t\t\tin the restart process:\n<div class=\"message\">Starting Windows 2000<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>You cannot configure your display settings.<\/li>\n<li>The network adapter does not function correctly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To resolve issues with the display settings or with a network \t\t  adapter, remove the graphics adapter or the network adapter from Device \t\t  Manager, and then restart the computer. Windows will redetect the device and \t\t  possibly prompt you for drivers.<\/p>\n<p>To resolve the problem when the source  HAL and the target  HAL under Windows Server 2008, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li> Click <strong>Start<\/strong>, right-click <strong>Command Prompt<\/strong>, and then click <strong>Run as administrator<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Run the following command: <strong><span class=\"userInput\">bcdedit \/set <var>GUID_identifier<\/var> detecthal yes<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To resolve the Stop error or the \t\t  problem where a computer stops responding, perform an in-place upgrade of \t\t  Windows.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After you restart the destination computer, you may experience the following symptoms: You receive one of the following Stop error messages: Stop 0x0000007B Inaccessible_Boot_Device STOP: 0x00000079 Hal_Mismatch The computer stops responding at startup.
